Our Volunteers: The Heart of Everything We Do

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible people who make Cards for Good Causes possible: our volunteers.

Quite simply, we could not do what we do without them.

In 2025, we opened 129 pop-up shops across the UK, helping to raise vital funds for charities and community partners. Behind every one of those shops are dedicated volunteers giving their time, energy and kindness to support their local communities.

From welcoming customers and sharing stories, to keeping shelves stocked and creating a warm, friendly atmosphere, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. They help turn our shops into more than just places to buy cards – they become places of connection, conversation and community.

More than Volunteering: Creating Connection

Every day in our shops, we see that volunteering is about far more than giving time. It’s about bringing people together.

At a time when social isolation and loneliness are becoming increasingly common, particularly for older people and those living alone, volunteering can provide something truly valuable: a sense of belonging.

Many of our volunteers tell us that their time in the shop is just as meaningful for them as it is for the customers they support. Friendships are formed, confidence grows, and simple conversations can brighten someone’s day.

Sometimes, a small interaction can make a big difference.

Building Confidence, Skills and Experience

Volunteering also provides opportunities for personal growth and development.

Whether someone is returning to work, exploring a new direction, or simply looking to build confidence, our shops offer a supportive and welcoming environment to develop valuable transferable skills, including:

• Customer service and communication
• Teamwork and collaboration
• Organisation and time management
• Problem-solving and adaptability

For some, volunteering becomes a stepping stone towards paid employment or new opportunities. For others, it’s a way to stay active, connected and engaged within their local community.

The Power of Giving Back

There is something uniquely rewarding about knowing your time is helping others.

Every hour given by our volunteers contributes directly to raising funds for charities providing essential support across the UK, from health and wellbeing services to local community initiatives and beyond.

What makes this so special is that it is built on individual acts of generosity: people choosing to give their time to help others.

Volunteering also reflects something we believe in deeply: the lasting impact of kindness.

Whether it’s helping someone find the perfect card, sharing a friendly conversation, or simply being there with a smile, these small moments can have a powerful effect.

A Community Effort

Our volunteers come from all walks of life, with different backgrounds, experiences and reasons for getting involved. What connects them is a shared desire to support their communities and make a positive difference.

Together, they help us to:

• Raise vital funds for charities
• Create welcoming and inclusive spaces
